Sierra Global 100% Focused on Climate

As of September 1st, Sierra Global is 100% focused on Climate. We have decided to concentrate on one of the biggest trends of our time: The Energy Transition. Sierra Global has been investing in European growth equities.  Over the years, an initial interest in Sustainability many decades ago has become the entire mission of Sierra. “Having launched an offshore Climate fund in 2021, today, we invest solely in one category, financially productive and sustainable Climate Solutions companies” says Chief Investment Officer and CEO Charlie Michaels.   “We are entering one of the most important turning points of our lifetime: The Energy Transition is as transformative as the Industrial Revolution and will attract investments in the trillions of dollars to decarbonize the world economies.  Growth will last for decades.”

The Article 9 UCITS Fund launched on September 1st specializes in Climate Solutions companies (with at least 30% of sales) that are both profitable and impactful.  The fund will target financial productivity (high returns, positive cash flows, strong balance sheets, and revenue growth) and impact (carbon avoidance, and more efficient use of resources).

Climate Solutions companies span a wide range of industries and sectors creating a well-diversified portfolio spread among many sectors.  “We invest mainly in companies in the following categories: renewable energy, energy efficiency and circularity (the circular economy) as well as biodiversity and Climate Change Adaptation.  Another way to look at our approach is to think of combining high quality growth investing with impact in Climate Solutions companies driving the energy transition.”   As we invest in higher quality companies with more growth than the average global company, over time, we intend to outperform global equity benchmarks.

Sierra Climate funds are supported by the research and experience of UC Berkeley Professor Daniel Kammen.  Professor Kammen served as a co-lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for their report Climate Change 2007.  His time as a scientific advisor for the US Government and the State of California provides Sierra with unique insight into the direction of Energy policy.

Additionally, Sierra has a strong research team comprised of four professionals each with one-three decades of investment experience.  Furthermore, Sierra is supported by an advisory group with thought leaders in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Human Rights, Ethical Supply Chains and Corporate Governance.
